It cannot be ascertained that he was buried in the Marvin Yard as his body would have been swept out to sea. His widow Polly gave the wrong year "1800" as she couldn't remember the exact year. There were five men named Samuel Beckwith in the Lyme area in the 18th century and trying to separate them is no easy task. Thank you. [courtesy of Find A Grave Contributor: Jonathan Twiss # 47229892] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The year 1800 is incorrect as it was given by his widow Polly in error. The correct year is 1802 based on the newspaper "New London Gazette", issue of 19 May 1802. He drowned in the Connecticut River and his body may have not been recovered. There's no proof that he actually was interred in Marvin Cemetery. [courtesy of Find A Grave Contributor: Jonathan Twiss # 47229892]
Note: The birth year of 1761 would make him 14 years old when he enlisted in 1775. While this is possible, it seems likely the age at his death is incorrect.
