ERIE - John F. “Jay” Lynch, III, 75, of Erie, passed away after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 5, 2024 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Erie on November 7, 1948, a son of the late John and Kathleen Gross Lynch.

Jay was a graduate of Academy High School, Class of 1966 and Youngstown State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He served in the Army National Guard as a Medical Corpsman. Jay worked for General Electric for 35 years retiring as a Business Leader in the Propulsion Center.

Jay was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family first. He was a strong, kind, giving and supportive father. Jay’s knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and boating with his family and friends. He was a member of the Erie Yacht Club and a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club and the Elks Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Kern. Jay is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Judy Orlando Lynch; his children, Dr. Ryan Lynch (Becky), Erica Hinkler (Denny), and Blake Lynch (Caitlin); his grandchildren, Maura and Brendan Lynch and Kelly Hinkler; his sister, Deborah Berti (Gary); and brother-in-law, Eugene Kern. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private funeral arrangements were handled by the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, Erie, PA 16502. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
