Daniel Ely, better known as Major Daniel Ely of Lyme, was born at that place in 1693 and was the third son of William Ely, and grandson of Richard Ely, the emigrant. Major Ely was married four times, thus atoning for the deficiencies of some of his descendants. Daniel married Mary Ann Champlin. (Mary Ann Champlin was born in 1692 in Connecticut and died in 1725 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut.) Daniel next married Ruth Wells, daughter of Samuel Welles and Ruth Judson, in Jan 1726 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut. (Ruth Wells was born on 29 Jan 1697 in Hartford, Connecticut and died on 2 Apr 1731 in Lyme, Connecticut.) Daniel next married Mary Rose. (Mary Rose was born in 1703 in Connecticut and died in 1735 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut.) Daniel next married Ruhama Turner in 1736 in Lyme, New London, Connecticuit.
