Donald R. Haener, 81, of Millcreek, passed away on Thursday March 23, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Warren, Pa. on November 12, 1935 a son of the late Fred A. and Katherine Machuga Haener.
Donald graduated from Academy High School and went on to graduate from Edinboro College where he earned a B.S. in Education. Donald taught at Wesleyville Elementary for many years. He was the leader of the Haener Brothers Band for over 60 years and the Dixie Doodlers.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and belonged to the American Federation of Musicians, the Zem Zem Shriners, and the Oasis Lodge #416, F&AM. He was an author of many books and enjoyed lecturing, fishing, being outdoors, and traveling with his wife. He especially enjoyed being a part of his bands.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred T. Haener.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Anne Linse Haener; one son, Donald D. Haener and his wife, Lori, of Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Laurie Haener-Buckley of Waterville, Ohio, Julie Marie Haener-Thomas and her husband, William, of Medford, Ore., and Lisa Haener-Brown and her husband, Norm, of Fairview; his twin brother, Ronald J. Haener and his wife, Margaret, of Erie; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and are invited to services there on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
