At the time of his induction in 1975, Earl was president of Reed Candy Co. and Clark Gum Co. becoming chairman and CEO later the same year.
Born in Franklinville, NY in 1921, Earl attended Gasport High School and Fenn College prior to embarking on his 40 year career in the candy business.
Earl’s began his career as production manager at Hawley & Hoops in 1946, joining Hart Confections as vice-president in 1953. In 1958 he moved to Luden’s Inc, becoming vice-president of sales. He joined Reed Candy Co. and Clark Gum Co. as president in 1970.
Earl retired in 1986.

Earl K. Manhold Jr., 79, Sarasota, died Jan. 11, 2001.

He was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Franklinville, N.Y., and came to Sarasota 15 years ago from Long Grove, Ill. He was owner of Manhold International. He was retired chairman of the board and part owner of The Reed Candy/Clark Gum Co. in Chicago. He was installed in the Candy Hall of Fame in Hershey, Pa. He was a Navy lieutenant in World War II and served as a combat pilot in the Pacific. He was a member of Palm Aire Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Jane; two daughters, Susan Keweshan of Belleair Beach and Heidi Orsborn of Downingtown, Pa.; a son, Earl K. III of Tampa; a brother, Max of Detroit; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be private for family only. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
