CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE - John J. Marcus, Sr., 96, of City of Poughkeepsie, died April 9, 2008 at Eden Park Nursing Home. He had been a machinist for 21 years at IBM, Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1973. A lifetime local resident, he had been a member of Moose Club #904, Royal Arcanum Club, Knights of Columbus #7551-St. Martins. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Church. John was an avid bowler. Born May 21, 1911 in Roda, VA, he was the son of John and Mary Marcus. On June 9, 1935 in Mt. Carmel Church, he was married to Carmela "Molly" Panessa. She predeceased him on Jan. 12, 1990. Survivors include son and daughterin-law, John and Judy Marcus, Jr., Poughkeepsie, daughter, Theresa Canora, Poughkeepsie, daughter, Marie Marcus, Carlsbad, CA, brotherin-law and his wife, Richard and Shirley Panessa, Poughkeepsie, grandchildren, Deborah Dvorak, Jeff Marcus, Scott Marcus, Shawn Magurno and Brent Magurno, step-grandchildren, James, II and David Canora, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, He was predeceased by brother, George Marcus and sisters, Mary Rizzo, Helen Pizzarelli, Florence Marcus, Anna Phillips and Betty Pearson. Calling hours will be Monday, April 14, 2008 from 4-8pm at William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Knights of Columbus will conduct a service at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tues., April 15, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
