• Obituary: Oswego Times Tuesday Evening, Page 8, 13 Jul 1915, Oswego Town, Oswego, New York. CHARLES BAKER A SUICIDE
AGED OSWEGO TOWN MAN SHOT HIMSELF THROUGH THE HEAD AT HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER THIS MORINING
Charles Baker, aged eighty-three years, one of the well-known residents of Oswego Town, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a revolver, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank E. Stevenson, on the Fifth Street road, about three miles south of the city. A physician was summoned as soon as his condition was discovered but the wound had beep Almost instantaneously fatal.
Mr. Baker suffered from a paralytic stroke about two years ago and since that time had been in rather feeble health. He had been melancholy for some time past because of his inability to work and Coroner Vowinkel decided that he had committed suicide while temporarily insane. He had arisen as usual about six o'clock this morning and appeared to be all right. About 9 o'clock Mrs. Stevenson walked down to a field where her husband was working and returned shortly before 9:30. She noticed her father under a tree and went out to speak to him and found he had a wound in his head. A thirty two caliber revolver lay near him.
Mr. Baker was born in the town of Sodus, Wayne county, and bad been a resident of Oswego county for about forty years. He was a ship carpenter and woodworker by trade and formerly conducted a berry crate and basket shop in Oswego Center. His daughter is the only surviving relative. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
Charles married Sarah E. Foster, daughter of George C Foster and Lydia J, on 4 Aug 1877 in Oswego, Oswego, New York. (Sarah E. Foster was born about 1845 in New York.)
