Descendant of Elisha Beckwith and of Rev. Roswell Beckwith, of Connecticut.
Daughter of Edward Griffin Beckwith and Cornelia Williamson, his wife.
Granddaughter of Barak Beckwith and Polly Kennedy, his wife.
Gr.-granddaughter of Roswell Beckwith and Lydia Dorr, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Elisha Beckwith and Adelaide Carpenter, his wife. Elisha Beckwith (1718-76), enlisted from Lyme to reinforce the army in New York and was killed at the battle of White Plains. He had four sons in the Continental army, Samuel, Nathan, Abner and Roswell.
Roswell Beckwith (1753-1836), enlisted for one year in Parson's regiment and was at the siege of Boston. He served as a minute man in the New York campaign and was captured at Fort Washington, Nov. 16, 1776. He was placed in irons on the "Dalton" in New York harbor and in three months was sent home on parole until exchanged in 1780. He served at the burning of New London.
