ADRIAN, Mich.
Emily B. Brant, age 81, of Adrian passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Lynwood Manor.

Emily was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Clinton Township, the oldest daughter of Lee Roy and Ruth (Kendrick) Smith. She graduated from Adrian High School with the class of 1945.

Emily worked for Bixby Medical Center for 22 years, retiring in 1991. In her retirement she worked for the public schools as a teacher’s aide and a foster grandparent. Emily was a licensed pilot who was active in the Civil Air Patrol in the 1940s. She enjoyed volunteering at the Lenawee County Library. Emily was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Emily is survived by two daughters, Lois (Brian) Whetro of West Unity, Ohio, and Linda (Randy) Brant of Fayette, Ohio; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Phillip Smith of Adrian; and a sister, Nancy Young of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Grzegorzewski; a son, Daniel Brant; and a sister, Olive Murray.

The funeral service for Emily will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor David Fulks officiating. Burial will follow at Graham Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
