• Biography: History of Old Fairfield, Jacobus, Page 516. Andrew Sanford
Brother of Thomas, he was baptized at Stanstead Mountfitchet, co. Essex, 1 Nov. 1617, and died at Milford in 1684. He settled in Hartford, where his uncle Andrew Warner lived; freeman, May 1657. His first wife, Mary, was indicted with him for witchcraft; she was convicted, 13 June 1662,and presumably executed. He removed to Milford 1667, and had a second wife, of whom not even her given name has been learned, with whom he joined the church in 1671. The younger children belonged to the second wife, and five were bapt. together at Milford in 1671. Much light on this family is shed by the (as yet) unpublished Winthrop documents. As a physician, in 1661,he treated the Sanford children and specified their ages as follows: Andrew, above 16 yrs., Mary 14~, Elizabeth 13, and Ezekiel 6. Later in the same year, he noted the youngest daughter (age 14) of Andrew Sanford, pumpmaker, which is important in indicating that Andrew's daughters Hannah, Martha, etc., were born after 1661, and hence were by the second wife. Again, in 1663, Winthrop noted Andrew (age 20), son of Andrew of Hartford.
Will: 6 Sept. 1684, proved: 12 Nov. 1684; children, - only Ezekie1, Mary and Hannah named. Invoiced: 16 Oct. 1684.
