Virginia L. Gray
Virginia Lee Gray of Bowling Green died at 5 a.m. Oct. 6, 2001, in Fremont, Ohio.
The Fremont native was a community leader and served in many local, state and national civic organizations. She was a charter member of the board of directors and past president of the Girls Club of Bowling Green Inc., a charter member and past president of the Eloise B. Houchens Center, where she served on the board of directors, a member and past president of the Bowling Green Gardening Club and a life member of the Garden Club of Kentucky. She was also a member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs Inc., a longtime member and past president of the Bowling Green Woman's Club, past president of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Auxiliary and served as a delegate to the National Veterinarian Auxiliary Association. She was a founding chairman of the First Western Kentucky University Libraries Author's Fair and a member of the Libraries Advisory Council of Western Kentucky University. She was instrumental in establishing Blue Star Memorial Status to early area highways and was a charter member of the planning committee of the Ground Waterwatch Workshop. She was on the board of directors of the Bowling Green Chapter of Dream Factory Inc., and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Current Topic Literary Club and Chapter P.E.O. She attended Bowling Green of Ohio University and received her nursing degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Chicago. She was a daughter of the late Oscar A. Gabel and Cordula Elizabeth Kaiser and the wife of the late Dr. Hollis Gray.
Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. ; Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Survivors include two daughters, Holly Anne Gray and Lynda Gray Caudill, both of Bowling Green; two brothers, Harry Gabel and Fred Gabel, both of Fremont; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia married Dr. Hollis A. Gray, son of Elijah H. Gray and Ines B. Drown, on 6 Oct 1941 in Sandusky, Ohio. (Dr. Hollis A. Gray was born in Jan 1916 in Tiffin, Sandusky, Ohio and died before 2001.)
