JAMES H FLUEGEL 'Red'--59: died Tuesday [8-02] at the Veterans Administration Medical Cntr. He was born 19 Mar 1924 in Erie, a son of Earl Edward & Amelia Carson Fluegel & was a home improvement contractor. Jim was an aviation machinist aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet during World War II, having served on the vessel from the time of its shakedown cruise until it was sunk.
Besides his mother, survivors include widow: Helen I Freeland Fluegel, 6 children: Christine (sp-Peter) Pallotto, Dianne (sp-Robert) Meyer, Bonnie (sp-Edw) Michalczik; Laura (sp-Duane) Bramblat; Gregory Fluegel & Launi Fluegel-all of Erie; 2 step-sons: Harold & Ken'th Wright-both of Erie; 4 sisters: Elaine Fluegel, Marilyn (sp-Donald) Malina, Doris (sp-Richard) Olson-all of Erie; Betty (sp-Ed) Lipzig-Ocean Ridge FL.
Friends may call at Donald Burton Funrl Home & may attend service there Saturday after-noon [8-06] with Robert Parker officiating. Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
