It is believed that the 1943 date is incorrect as there are no census records for him after 1880. Although the gravestone should have the correct date, it is similar to Louisa's and may have been placed there sometime after his death, e.g. in 1936. The newspaper date of 2 Jan 1899 is assumed to be the most accurate.
