Charles Simmons
- Born: Abt 1756, Linville Creek, Franklin, Virginia
- Marriage: Frances Meador
- Died: 1827, Franklin, Virginia about age 71
Noted events in his life were:
• Family: Internet Post. Charles b. abt 1753 in Bedford Co, d. 1837 in Floyd Co. Married Eleanor Cummins / Children: Thomas, Carey, William, Sarah, Rebecca, Eleanor, Rhoda, Milly."
My comments: These last two are crossed children (Rhoda and Milly). They are the same persons mentioned in a will of Charles Simmons married to Francis Meador. Francis Meador is NOT a second wife to Eleanor Cummins as the dates make them both living at the same time and Frances Meador Simmons is mentioned in her father's will probated at the same time Eleanor Cummins is living. Victor Meador thinks Charles Simmons is the son of George Simmons. It is very possible George is an older brother not father of Charles. There is one Charles b. abt 1755 d. 1827 Franklin Co. married Frances Meador. possible father; George or Charles. There is another Charles b. abt 1753 in Bedford Co, d. abt. 1837 Floyd Co. Married Eleanor Cummins. Father; Charles.

• Family History: email from Nancy Simmons, February 26, 2022. Thank you for trying to sort the Charles Simmons in Franklin from the Charles Simmons in Floyd. Some of their children have the same names and since their dates are almost idenitical, and the descendants of both claim the Charles Simmons who died in Campbell Co as their Charles' father, the trees on the internet are almost hopelessly tangled. The Charles in Floyd was married twice, first to a Miss Reed and had 3 sons and then married Eleanor Cummings, nee Weeks who had 2 daughters. “Long Tom” Thomas Simmons was a son of the Charles in Franklin and Thomas Weeks Simmons was the son of the Charles in Floyd. A great grandson of the Floyd Charles said that his grandmother, Eleanor Simmons Lester, said that her father was born in MD. I have found a family in Baltimore Co. that looks promising.
It turns out the Y-DNA shows a very close match between these 2 Charles Simmons families so if we can ever find their parents and grandparents we will probably have the connection.
Charles married Frances Meador.
