Joseph Beckwith

  Noted events in his life were:

• Residence: From his father's obituary in History of New London, Francis M Caulkins, 1895: Lyme, New London, Connecticut. Joseph and Nathaniel Beckwith, sons of Matthew, Sen., settled in Lyme;

• Family History: From Additional Beckwith Notes by Frederick H Beckwith, Stratford, Connecticut, 1956. Joseph Beckwith - Son of Matthew - b. 1653 Lyme and d. early part of 1707 m. abt. 1676 Susannah Tallman dau. of Peter Tallman, Portsmouth, R.I., b. abt. 1662 bapt. 9 July 1682.

She died early in 1717. Her second marriage about 1715 was to Capt. Joseph Way of Lyme, Conn. Joseph Beckwith was an Inkeeper in Lyme, Conn. He made deeds of gifts of his entire estate to wife ana two children. Will 3 April 1707 - Y.S. 1-355. He died before the deeds were offically acknowledged. He did not die in the Wood Creek Expedition in 1709.

JOSEPH, born circa 1653 (age 4 on 15 February 1657[/8] [Winthrop Medical Journal 1:379]); died Lyme, CT after 20 December 1707 (Lyme Deed 2:355); married say 1675 SUSANNA TALLMAN, baptized an adult 9 say 1682 (TAG 22[1945]:51), died after 1711, daughter of Peter Tallman of Newport, RI. Joseph was an innkeeper. Susanna brought her child into court 23 October 1672 and said that Roger Goulding was the father (Newport Ct Bk A:9). Susanna married second 1711 George Way of Lyme (see Way Chapter).

2) Joseph, born Lyme 15 April 1679 (ibid.)

• Family: From Beckwith Note 6, by Albert C. & Edward S. Beckwith, 1907, Page 2. JOSEPH had wife SUSANNAH. He died about 1708, and his widow was married about 1715 to (Capt. Joseph?) Way.

Joseph married Susanna Tallman, daughter of Peter Tallman and Unknown. (Susanna Tallman was born about 1662 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, christened on 9 Jul 1682 and died in 1717 in Connecticut.)
