• Death: From Poughkeepsie Journal on 2 June 1853, 28 May 1853, Hamilton, Madison, New York. Sad Accident - Utica May 28 - A sad accident occurred at Hamilton, N.Y., this afternoon. While raising a bell to the bellfry of the Congregational Church, the rope broke, precipitating the bell, with Samuel M. Beckwith, to the ground. Mr. B. died in about an hour from his injuries. He was an estimable citizen and leaves a wife and family.
