It is unclear what source was used to specify that Ruth Ely Beckwith died in 1750 or that Samuel Beckwith married Love Mack following Ruth's death. Clearly these two events are not supported by the referenced Ely Ancestry.
• Death: From her father's probate records, After Apr 1776. Her father's will dated 8 April 1776 mentions her along with her living sisters as follows:
And further more my will is and I hereby give the whole of the Remainder of my moveable estate (to dud namely Mary, Ayne, Ruth, Sarah & Lucritia) Equal to be Divided between them, among all my Daughters ^ Excepting my Case of Drawers and a Looking glass which I give to my son Wells Ely they being the same his Mother Brought to me.
Page 51 of Ely Ancestry identifies Daniel Ely's daughters as follows: Mary b. 1714 Ann b. 1716 Elizabeth, b. 1718: d. Feb. 21, 1759 Sarah Ruth. b. 1727 Amy or Anne. b. 1740: d 1776 Lucretia. b. 1742
which is consistent with the order for his daughters listed in his will. He did not include Elizabeth or Amy/Anne as they died before him.
His will also identifies his fourth wife, Ruhanah, his sons, and one grandson, Erastus Seldon, whose mother died in 1776. No other grandchildren are mentioned. Erastus had several sisters, one of which, Anne, was alive in 1776, but she is not mentioned in Daniel Ely's will. Lucretia Ely had a daughter, Ethelinda, who was born in 1771. Mary Ely had 11 children with Benjamin Lee and Elizabeth Ely had 11 children with Abraham Perkins. None of these grandchildren are mentioned in Daniel Ely's will. Therefore, the absence of any grandchildren with the surname of Beckwith in Daniel Ely's will is not sufficient to conclude that Ruth Ely Beckwith had no children.
Ruth married Samuel Beckwith in 1750 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut.
