• Family History: From Beckwith Note 6, by Albert C. & Edward S. Beckwith, 1907, Page 2. MATHEW (Mathtew ) born at Guilford, Apr. 13, 1667; married HANNAH CHAMPION, (Thomas, Henry), who appears to have been Widow Cogswell, and who was born Feb. 13, 1683.

MATTHEW is said to have died in 1740. (See No. 29.) There were children, perhaps, though proof is wanting.

"Matthew Beckwith sadler of Lyme, debts due to the estate of Wistall Coggswell dec. passes his household furniture to his wife Hannah and his loom and tackle to his daughter-in-law Martha Cogswell."-Lyme Land Record, Vol. iv.p.5. [Date not copied, but about 1726.] Martha Cogswell was evidently Matthew's step-daughter, and he her mother's second husband, (though the Champion Genealogy does not note her Cogswell marriage). Hannah may have been Matthew's second wife.

Mathew married Hannah Champion, daughter of Thomas Champion and Unknown. (Hannah Champion was born on 13 Feb 1683 in Connecticut.)
