• Obituary: The Wenatchee World, 2 Feb 2015, Waterville, Douglas, Washington. Paul N. Hinderer
September 5, 1933 ~ January 30, 2015
Paul N. Hinderer died at home due to ALS in the early morning of January 30, 2015. He was born to Melinda and E.P. Hinderer as an unexpected twin on September 5, 1933, in Waterville, WA. Paul attended school and lived in Waterville his entire life, except for time attending Pacific Lutheran College. Following college, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve and continued farming. Paul and his brothers, Mark and John, purchased their first piece of farm land at age 15, beginning his lifelong love of farming. Paul’s staunch advocacy for sound farming practices, including the construction of countless dams and terraces, was recognized with the 2015 Conservation Farmer of the Year awarded by the South Douglas Conservation District. He was also a lifelong supporter of 4H and member of the United Lutheran Church.
Family was Paul’s other greatest pride. He was blessed with his loving wife of 49 years, Lois; three children, Shannon (Mike), Susan (Jason), and Garth (Naoko); and seven grandchildren, Gavin, Kiera, Claire, Valerie, Hana, May, and Asa. Paul is also survived by his twin brother, John; and sister, Irene. Paul supported his family through their life transitions.
He will be long and fondly remembered by his family and friends (who is everyone he ever met) as a talker, a firewood connoisseur, and the consumer of endless cups of coffee. Later life travels to Japan, Australia and the Panama Canal garnered him many international friends as well. His family is continually amazed by the sheer quantity of people who share stories of his support and deeds of friendship.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the United Lutheran Church in Waterville at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association or to the Waterville Swimming Pool Fund. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at jonesjonesbetts.com. Arrangements are by Waterville Funeral Home.
