Frances Eileen Lynch, 91,of Erie, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. Mary's Home East. She was born June 12, 1920 in Erie, the daughter of the late Frank Edward and Mary Jane O'Brien Lynch. A 1938 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Eileen completed her Bachelors degree in 1942 at Villa Maria College where she sang for their Baccalaureate Mass at graduation. The following summer she was tutored by Evan Evans of the Julliard School of Music at the Chautauqua Institute. A lifelong member of St. Peter Cathedral, Eileen loved music and sang for 30 years with the Cathedral Choir under the direction of William Herring, because of her many years with the choir, she received plaque acknowledging her many contributions to that group. Miss Lynch retired from Erie's General Electric in 1983 after 33 years as a systems analyst. When GE introduced their computer system in Erie, she was a pioneer operator and her career grew along with that system. Prior to that, she had also worked at Erie Forge and Steel and Odin Stove Co. After retirement, she volunteered with the American Red Cross for many years and also enjoyed playing duplicate bridge at the Mercy Center. In recent years, she was honored by the Gannon University Alumni Association as one of the oldest living "Villa girls" Besides her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Lynch and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Lynch Gray; a brother, John Lynch; a nephew, William Gray; and great-nephews, Billy Gray and Robert E. Gray. She is survived by her niece, Rebecca J. Fluegel, of Erie; and her nephews, Robert F. Gray of Arlington, Va., and Thomas O'Brien Gray and Barry Gray, both of Erie. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, W. 9th & Liberty St., Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Cathedral.
