Carroll OXFORD John G Carroll of Oxford died at his home on Tuesday, July 20, 1999 He was 94 Born in Cleveland. Ohio on June 10, 1905, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Mary McGuin Carroll. As a child, he moved to the Baltimore area where he graduated from Calvert Hall High School and Johns Hopkins University in 1928. Upon graduation, he entered the U S Army Air Corps and received his training at Brooks and Kelly Fields. His flying career included early barnstorming, aircraft sales and later service as a commissioned officer of the Maryland National Guard 104th Observation Squadron based at Logan Field in Baltimore. He became associated with the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey as a corporate pilot and was in charge of their operations at Newark Airport. He also served as a test pilot with the Glenn L. Martin Co. He was later employed by the Davidson Chemical Company, which is now W.R. Grace and Company until retiring in 1965. After retirement, he moved from Towson to Oxford, Md. A past president and Past Board Member of the Talbot County YMCA, he also served on the Board of Talbot County United Fund and the Talbot Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was a former vestryman and senior warden at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Oxford. He was also a member of the Talbot Country Club, The Tred Avon and Poplar Island Yacht Clubs. He was an avid boater and enjoyed sailing his 27-foot sloop "True Love" and later "Bunky." He was an active member of Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 45 and received a Coast Guard Public Service Commendation for outstanding achievement in his efforts to advance the careers and lives of young men and women by introducing them to opportunities in the United States Coast Guard. Inspired by his advice and enthusiasm, seven Americans, representing different races, national origins, and genders have joined the ranks of the Coast Guard. Together they have provided 89 years of distinguished service in our nation's oldest seagoing service. Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Martha Mcllvain Eastwick; two sons, John G. Carroll, Jr. of Silver Spring, Md. and Thomas E Carroll of Cape May, N.J.; two grandsons, Jason and Ian of Silver Spring; and his sister, Mary Alice Gildea of Baltimore. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, at noon at the Church of The Holy Trinity, Oxford. Private inurnment will be at the Church of The Holy Trinity Columbarium. Memorial donations may be made to the Talbot County YMCA, P.O. Box 127, Easton, Md. 21601 or the Church of The Holy Trinity, Oxford, Md. 21654. Funeral arrangements are by ____ .
