JEREMIAH LOMISON was born in 1814, near Washington, Columbia county, and was a son of William and Ann Lomison nee Fulkerson. The former was a miller. He died in October, 1862, at the age of eighty-two; his wife in 1867, at the age of seventy-four. The family removed to our subject’s present farm in 1837. He was married in 1837 to Mary Mervine, of Hughesville, Lycoming county. Their children were: Angeline, m. to James Devinney; John Nelson, m. to Miriam Stewart; Jane, m. to William Stewart; Mary, d.; Margaret, m. to Allison Loughrey; and Lucy, d. Our subject was a tanner by trade, and the superintendent of the Wolf tannery of Hughesville for five years. For several years, in addition to farming, he managed a grist mill located on his property, which was erected by Robert Allen. He also conducted a general store for several year, and was a dealer in stock and country produce. He served as county commissioner, and in other official trusts. The Lomison tract was patented to Hannah Simpson in 1815.

Mr. L. was a tanner and he was superintendent for about five years of the Wolf Tannery at Hughesville, Lycoming Co. With his parents he moved to Center Twp. 1837 where he farmed and operated a grist mill along Cherry Run. By 1852 or earlier, “J. Lomison & Bro.” were conducting a general store near Homer City, which later (c. 1858) was under the management of J. Lomison only. Mr. L. also dealt in livestock and country produce. He was a ruling elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Our subject married Mary Mervine of Hughesville. Their children were Angeline m. James Devinney; John Nelson m. Miriam Stewart; Jane m. William Stewart; Mary; Margaret m. Allison Loughry; and Lucy.
Mr. L. was s/o William Lomison, a miller, who d. Oct. 1862, age 82; and his wife, Ann Fulkerson who d. 1867, age 74. A complete list of children is not available. Mr. L. had at least one brother, Dr. Henry G. Lomison, a merchant of Blairsville and in 1848 co-owner of the Pittsburgh & Blairsville packet and freight boat Telegraph (I:337). He graduated from Jefferson Medical Coll., Phila., practiced a few years in Saltsburg, then moved to Nebraska for a short time and settled at Greensburg.

Devinney, 1974, Page 80. 3-454 Jeremiah Lomison was born in 1814, near Washington, Columbia County and was the son of William and Ann Lomison, nee Fulkerson. The former was a miller. He died in 1867 [1862] at the age of 74 [82]. Jeremiah moved to a farm in Center Twp. Indiana County in 1872 [1837]. He was married to Mary Mervine, of Hughesville, Lycoming County. Olyn DeVinny, of Homer City, Pa., remembers his grandmother Lomison (Jeremiah's daughter Angeline) telling him how they moved over the Penna. Canal which would have been opened partly in the year they were to move from Lycoming County. Olyn DeVinny is 84 years old (1974) and remembers his grandmother Lomison quite well.

Mr. Jeremiah Lomison of Center Township, died on Friday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock, of kidney trouble, aged 83 years. The deceased had been ill for some time. His illness deranged his mental faculties for several months prior to his death. The deceased was well known in the southern part of the county. In 1875 he was elected county commissioner and was in office from 1876 to 1879. He has been a lifelong member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, where he has been a ruling elder for years. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Angeline Devinney, who makes her home with her parents; Mrs. A. L. Loughry, who lives at the old homestead; and Mrs. William Stewart, of Jacksonville. The funeral services were conducted on Sabbath afternoon, by Rev. M. S. Telford, of Homer City. Internment followed at Oakland Cemetery at this place.
