• Biography: From Jonathan Waterbury Genealogy. (6) DAVID WATERBURY, fifth and last child of John and Rose (Lockwood) Waterbury of Watertown. Mass., and Stamford. Conn., was born in Stamford about 1655 and died there November 20, 1706. He fought with the rank of lieutenant in King Phillips War and with others in recognition of services in this war received a house lot. A town minute of Stamford recording: "September 26, 1676, the town agrees that all those soldiers that went out upon service out of Stamford against the common enemy shall have land of the town. namely all that did service." David is listed among those who received land.

A surrender of land for the purpose of increasing the limits of Stamford was signed by the Indians, December 23, 1680. Joshua Knapp and Lieutenant David Waterbury being witnesses. On March 16, 1693, we find David Waterbury appointed a member of a committee of the Stamford church "to treat with Mr. Davenport as minister, etc."

In the assigrnment of lots in 1699, David Waterbury and his son are each recorded as having received one. In the appraisal of estates in the town in 1701 David's is listed as 103 pounds, 10S, 9d. March 5. 1700 he was appointed with Jonathan Selleck. Jr., and Elisha Holly "to report on a place at Stony Brook for Mr. Batell to set a fulling mill as he wishes leave to do." At the same town meeting, Lieutenant David Waterbury and David Scofield. Sr. were named "sheep masters to take care of ye flock. "

When July 8, 1702, "a vote wall passed to build a new meeting house next fall, 50 feet square of customary heighth where the pound stand." Lieutenant Waterbury and others were constituted the building committee.

Lieutenant David Waterbury was twice married, his first wife being Hannah, daughter of William Newman, born October 29, 1657, and his second wife being Sarah Weed, whom he married August 11, 1698.

The children of Lieutenant David and Hannah (Newman) Waterbury were:

(21) III Sarah. b. January 10, 1685: m. January 20, 1704, Jonas Weed of Norroton, Conn. who died November 19, 1714, leaving a son, Jonas b. December 24, 1704.

(23) V David. b. October 9, 1701.
(24) VI Ebenezer. b. December. 1704: killed by falling tree, March 7, 1721.
(25) VII Mercy. b. January 27, 1706; m. David Selleck, January 3, 1722.

Waterbury, David, Sr., Lieut., late of Stamford, will dated Mar. 24, 1703/4, probated Jan. 28, 1706/7, mentioned his wife Sarah, and children John, David, Ebenezer, Elizabeth, has had her portion, Sarah, has had her portion, and Ruth. Executrix his wife. Witnesses Joseph Turney, Joseph Knapp, and Abraham Weed, page 99. Nov. 20, 1706, codicil dated, Mercy, who was born since the date of the will, given land bought of Susannah Bell, page 99. Inventory taken Dec. 1706, by Samuel Hait, Daniel Scofield, and Stephen Bishop, mentioned his daughters Elizabeth How and Sarah Weed, and filed Jan. 28, 1706/7, page 99a.. Feb. 7, 1711/2, Isaac How acknowledged the receipt of the share of his wife Elizabeth in said estate, page 70a. Feb. 7, 1711/2, Jonas Weed acknowledged the receipt of the share of his wife in said estate page 70a. Feb. 1, 1715/6, David, a son of decedent, made choice of his brother-in-law Jonas Weed, to be his guardian; the court appointed Isaac How of Stamford to be guardian of Ebenezer, another son of decedent; Ruth, a daughter of decedent, made choice of her brother-in-law Jonas Weed, to be his guardian; the court appointed Isaac How of Stamford to be guardian of Ebenezer, another son of decedent; Ruth, a daughter of decedent, made choice of her brother-in-law Jonas Weed to be her guardian; and the court appointed Jonas Weed to be guardian of Mercy, another daughter of decedent, page 368. F1-226.
