Union street, Kingston, was the blaster.
Said He Gave Warning
Frank Pennes of 65 South Clover street, Poughkeepsie, and Robert Caudy of Cornwall were operating a crane which picked up debris from the blasts. Caudy told Coroner Chipp he had shouted a blast was to be set off and he and Pennes took cover. Men on the adjoining buildings reported, Coroner Chipp said, that they had not heard the warning and continued to work. Suddenly they were showered by rock.
The rock which struck Cook weighed about 30 pounds and struck him on the left forehead, crushing his skull and inflicting lacerations of the brain. An autopsy was performed by Dr. Gilbert Schaffner and Dr. Anthony Tocco. The body was turned over to the Pint Funeral Home at New Paltz.
Corporal John Metzer and Trooper Divine of the Highland barracks investigated the accident. The investigation was still under way today by the B.C.I. unit.
