Catherine was born on September 5, 1836 in Alabama. On September 1, 1853, Catherine Shelton married William R. Duncan in Jackson County, Alabama. William was born on March 30, 1832 in Alabama. William and Catherine Duncan were the parents of at least six children:

Both were buried in the Shannon Cemetery in Clay County, Texas. On July 21, 1887, Robert E. Duncan married Laura Boyd in Montague County, Texas.
