Clarence V. Lewis, 92, of Coleman, Michigan, died April 25, 2009, at Tendercare, Midland, Michigan.

He was born June 30, 1916, in Geneva Township the son of the late Charles Lewis and Catherine (Clarke) Lewis.

Clarence Lewis married Jean Wilson June 21, 1939, in Coleman, and they would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year.

Clarence was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II, from December 1943 to January of 1946 in the European Theatre. He and his wife Jean owned and operated the Gamble Store in Coleman for 44 years, opening in 1938 and retiring in 1982.

Survivors included his wife Jean Lewis of Coleman; sons, Jerry and Mary Lewis of Coleman, James and Nancy Lewis of Saginaw; daughter, Kay and Dick Shelby of Coleman; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer and Mary Lewis of Coleman and Vernell and Glenna Lewis of Coleman; sisters, Ruth Ramsey of Coleman, Florence Smith of Sanford and Kathleen Long of Coleman.

Clarence was preceded in death by brothers, Carl Lewis and Ken Lewis.

Funeral: Geneva Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. David Bourns officiating.
