Marthu [Martha] Beckwith was borne the 8 August 1697.

According to Beckwith Note 6, Martha was a transcription error and Mathew is correct.

• Family History: From Beckwith Note 6, by Albert C. & Edward S. Beckwith, 1907, Page 6. MATTHEW, (James, Matthew, [Mathew] ), born at Lyme, Aug. 8, 1697; married Feb. 17, 1721 ELISHEBA REINER, (Josiah, of New London). From one early misreading of birth record, which had become conventional with copyists his name was made Martha, to whom an anachronistic husband was given. Rev. William Durant found and read correctly the records of birth, marriage, and a deed of gift to ''Matthew ye 3d, son of Jeames Beckwith." Probably not he who died in 1740.
