Thomas), born c. 1625 in Burmington, Warwickshire, England; and died in Hartford, Connecticut, before 20 August 1668 in a fall from a cherry tree (Hartford Courant, iss. 23 Sep 1845, p. 2, citing Hartford church sexton's records, his grave was seven feet long). He married on 23 June 1654 in Hartford, Connecticut (Col. Recs. 2:121; CHS Collections 14:608, identifies Thomas as the son of Mr. Thomas Welles, Magistrate, and Hannah as a widow from Hartford) HANNAH (TUTTLE) PANTRY, daughter of Richard Tuttle and Anne Taylor of Boston, and widow of John Pantry, who died in 1653 (TAG 30:7-10 for parents and first husband); she died 9 August 1683 in Hartford, at age 50, and was buried in Center Cemetery, Hartford, Connecticut (Hartford Cem. 47).

A Distribution Agreement for his estate was made 27 Nov 1695 by John and Mary Olcott as administrators on the estate of Thomas Welles, and by Ichabod Welles, Samuel Welles, Joseph Welles, Mrs. Sarah Bidwell the relict of John Bidwell, dec'd., and James and Rebeckah Judson. Sarah Bidwell protested that the distribution still had not been made as of 5 Aug 1706 (Manwaring 1:592-593, citing VI:124-125and VH:86). The estate came under new rules set into place by the Royally-appointed Gov. Edmond Andros that required processing in Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. The family filed only an administrator's bond and inventory during the 1686-1689period of Andros' rule (TAG 12:179 citing Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, Probate Records 10:175, 415).
