Rebecca J. (Gray) Fluegel, age 71, of Erie passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at her home. Funeral arrangements will be announced Monday by the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St.
• Obituary: Erie Times-News, 10 Oct 2016, Erie, Erie, Pennsylvania, USA. Rebecca Jean (Gray) Fluegel Obituary Rebecca Jean (Gray) Fluegel, age 71, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at her home. She was born in Erie on December 5, 1944, the daughter of the late Robert B. and Mary Elizabeth (Lynch) Gray.
A 1963 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, she attended Gannon University for her undergraduate and graduate degrees. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Eileen Lynch; her brother, William Gray; and her nephews, William Gray and Cpl. Robert E. Gray USMC.
Becky is survived by her husband of 43 years, Larry P. Fluegel; her brothers, Robert F. Gray and his wife, Mary Alice of Arlington, Va., Thomas O'Brien Gray, and Barry Gray and his wife, Christine Troutman, all of Erie. Becky leaves behind her children, Timothy Fluegel and his wife, Amy Hagmaier, Larry Scott Fluegel and his wife, Ann, Patric Fluegel and his wife, Tiffany of Savannah, Ga., Justin Fluegel of Savannah, Ga., Andrew Fluegel and his wife, Emily, Mark Fluegel and his wife, Megan, and Abigail DeJohn and her husband, Stephen. In addition to her children, Becky was blessed with six grandchildren, Benjamin and Madison Fluegel, Lucas and Anna Fluegel, Alanna Fluegel and Amelia DeJohn.
Becky served in the United States Air Force and worked locally as a therapeutic support staff and a teacher. She enjoyed raising her numerous dogs, playing the piano, reading, writing poetry, and the history of her family. Becky was involved for many years in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, raising four sons to earn their Eagle Scout Award and her only daughter to earn her Gold Award. She was active in the Catholic faith and participated as a CCD teacher and volunteered on several parish organizations. She was a loving mother and constant caregiver to anyone in need, from raising her children to helping loved ones, and as a volunteer. Recently she spent most of her time helping raise her beloved grandchildren and loved watching them grow and play together.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St., on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Robert B. Gray Scholarship Fund, c/o Erie Community Foundation, 459 West 6th St., Erie, PA 16507.
