Bio: Elizabeth Saltonstall was born in New London, in the colony of Connecticut, on January 12, 1742/3, the daughter of General Gurdon Saltonstall and his wife, Rebecca (Winthrop) Saltonstall, and granddaughter of Connecticut Governor Gurdon Saltonstall, a member of the Massachusetts Saltonstall family (Elizabeth Saltonstall's date of birth from New London vital records). She died while her second husband, Silas Deane, was serving as the first foreign diplomat from the United States to France.
