(1707-1796) |
Reynold Beckwith
Noted events in his life were: • Birth: From Vital Records of Lyme, Connecticut to the End of the Year 1850, p. 219, 15 Feb 1707, Lyme, New London, Connecticut. The birth and death of the children of Jeames Beckwith and Sarah his wife • Family History: From Beckwith Note 6, by Albert C. & Edward S. Beckwith, 1907, Page 6. REYNOLD, (James, Matthew, [Mathew]), was born Feb. 15, 1706-7 at Lyme; in 1734 went to Norwich; 1741 to Bolton; about 1752 to Southington; in 1756 to Wallingford (Meriden); died Dec. 27, 1796. He married 1st, April 4, 1732, at Lyme, MARTHA MARVIN, (Reynold, Edward, Reynold), who was born at Lyme, April 3, 1710; died at Bolton, July 26, 1742. He married 2d, March 3, 1743, DOROTHY SAWYER, of Hebron, who died at Meriden, June 26, 1790. • Family History: From Marvin Beckwith and His Wife Abigail Clark, 1899, page 10. REYNOLD BECKWITH was born at Lyme , Feb'y 15, 1706-7, [record at Hamburg]; married his cousin, MARTHA MARVIN April 4, 1732 [record, with baptisms of two children at Old Lyme]; bought land at Norwich, Dec. 4, 1735; births of two elder children and birth and baptism of third child recorded there; sold land in 1741; appeared at Bolton the same or next year, where MARTHA died July 26, 1742, and where he married DOROTHY SAWYER, of Hebron, March 3, 1743; joined church by letter from Norwich in the same year; had three more children before appearing at Farmington, south parish; received "his portion" from James, his father, Oct. 12, 1752; "1/2 of farm on which I now dwell, in Southington"; sold this land in 1756; next found at Wallingford, north parish (Meriden) as early as 1768; "striving, with others, for settlement of a minister" in 1769; took "oath of fidelity" in 1777; died at Meriden, Dec. 27, 1796. "Mrs. Beckwith died June, 26, 1790," and it is reasonable to infer that this church record at Meriden refers to Dorothy; but there is another barely possible inference, as may be shown. Reynold married Martha Marvin, daughter of Captain Reynald Marvin and Martha Waterman, on 4 Apr 1732 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut. (Martha Marvin was born on 3 Apr 1710 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut and died on 26 Jul 1742 in Bolton, Connecticut.) Noted events in their marriage were: • Marriage: Early Connecticut Marriages, Third Book, Frederick W Bailey, page 132, 4 Apr 1732, Lyme, New London, Connecticut. Reynold Beckwith & Martha Marvin Reynold next married Dorothy Sawyer on 3 Mar 1743 in Hebron, Connecticut. (Dorothy Sawyer died on 26 Jun 1790 in Meriden, Connecticut.) |
